At Proper Food, we make it a cinch to eat well on the run. We craft our fare by hand fresh every morning the only we know how – with whole, seasonal ingredients sliced, chopped and seasoned with care. Nothing phony or factory-made. Just good, proper food that’s packed and ready to go. We cook all our meals from scratch each morning in our commissary kitchen and deliver them to our stores daily. At the end of each day, unsold meals are donated to local food banks.


Proper Food launched in San Francisco in 2014 and has rapidly grown to twelve locations in San Francisco, earning accolades from customers, food critics and local media. We are continuing to grow in San Francisco, the Peninsula and New York City - bringing our fresh, honest fare to the Bay Area and NYC, redefining ‘fast food’ in way that appeals to the food-savvy and time-starved!


The Role

As Operations Manager, you’ll be supporting the San Francisco FiDi Market (10 locations) under the leadership of your Regional Manager.

With your Regional Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations of your territory’s (10) locations. Your focus will be to ensure proper inventory levels are maintained, orders are placed on time and according to business needs to drive sales performance while controlling waste; utilizing forecasting tools in excel and Toast. In addition, you will support upholding and streamlining store processes, ensuring company standards are met.


Our downtown stores are open Monday – Friday. If you are a strong operator who is passionate about high quality food, working with a team and excited by the idea of changing the way people eat on the go, this may be the position for you.


Your Responsibilities

Inventory: Oversee and set daily & weekly pars utilizing tools in excel and Toast reporting. Setting Par levels to drive sales and prevent unnecessary waste. Supervise supply ordering.


Operations: Supporting the team with troubleshooting basic technology (ie. Toast systems, excel). Ensure all procedures are being executed efficiently, effectively and at the highest level. Ensure functionality of all equipment and report to Regional Manager on general store upkeep.

Customer Experience: Take pride in ensuring our teams deliver an exceptional customer experience including a spotless store environment, the highest level of food quality and the kind of customer service that brightens everyone’s day. Closely monitor and quickly respond to customer feedback via multiple channels (e.g., in-store, email, loyalty program, social media, etc.).


Catering & menu implementation: Assist Catering Lead and support catering program. Maintain updated in-store collateral; labels, menus, allergens, signage, and oven settings.


Team building & Leadership: Maintain our positive, professional and high-performance culture. Demonstrate hands-on leadership, rolling up your sleeves and jumping in whenever needed. Be a role model for delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Job requirements

Specifically, you must have:

  • 2+ years of retail/restaurant operations experience.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel & Word. Toast & Adobe experience are a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 25+ lbs
  • Open availability during business hours (currently M-F)
